12/17/10

So today was the last day of class. I really liked the presentations at first, but then they got to be very long. I feel like this glass was a very good class for me. I learned a lot about dreamwever and indesign as well as other aspects of technology. I also liked learning hands on with doing the exercises through the class. This class was a very good class to learn from even for those who are not going for macc communication. I feel like i pushed myself as a student to become more independent and i like that the layout of the class provided the tools upfront and open with giving us all the tools to become the best students that we can. I feel that it was very good to have a great class full of peers that want to get engaged. I feel that in the beginning some of the students were ignorant in learning and that they were pretty much dependant on the teacher to provide them with everything and in the end I feel that they pulled through to atleast get a decient grade. I really wish that there was an advanced im260 class so I could continue to learn about technology. This was a great class!!!! I am however dissapointed to see the lack of amount of work that other students put in for there final presentations. I feel that our group spent a lot of time to do well and really inform our class about Net Neutrality. I feel that I deserve an a in this class due to the amount of work I put in and the engagement in class. As for others I feel that they should be only average, which is a little dissapointed.

I have also gone through the discussion page and completed the few I forgot. I think it is really funny to read the thoughts of others on important issues. you can tell that they do not even read the articles that are attached. They just assume they know what they are writing about from the name of the article.

This week is finals weeks and we do not have class until our scheduled time on Friday. As I continue to blog and be involved in discussions, I feel like no one ever comments on my blog. Also I cannot wait to see final grades for this semester. I have worked very hard in all of my classes and I hate the anticipation. :)

Wednesday in class:
   To day is the first day of final project presentations. I feel that our presentation went well. I really enjoyed the opportunity to hear feedback from classmates. We are to reflect in the survey section on D2L. I like that we do have the opportunity to reflect but however I feel like it would be more practicle to make the surveys by group but just more questions with each group member.  Regardless im glad that our presentaion went well and that I am pretty much done with the class besides providing the support to my class mates while they present.

  Today is another work day. This is an oppertunity to work on our presentations and re work on our final papers. This class is coming to a close and our group presents on Wednesday. Our topic is Net Neutrality and all sides of it. I can't wait for this semester to come to a close and have a break from homework and classes.

Today is December 1st!!!! Only 24 days until Christmas.

So we completed the final paper and now the only thing left is the presentation of the final project.

For class time today we are working on our final presentation project. Our group will be presenting Monday!!!! I cant wait to get it done. :)

SO this is not class related but this year I am finding it hard to think of things to ask for for Christmas. I have been telling people not to get me anything because i feel like if i need something i can buy it and that the gifts don't really matter that much anymore if at all. Weird huh?

Monday in class:
   Welcome back everyone!!! These next few weeks are going to fly by. Today in class we are working revising our papers and our final presentations. Our group is working on Net Neutrality and we are working on a sweet mashup for our final presentation. Also I am kind of excited that this semester is coming to a close. I want to go onto other classes and continue learning. Also I am very much looking froawrd to christmas break. I cant wit to have a break from school. :)

         Well its time to finish this semester strong. Thanksgiving break was not long enough. But only 2 weeks and it will be finals week.  I am anxious to see every one's finished project. Our group has been working really hard on compiling our mash up and preparing for our final presentation for the class.  I do like that we have had time in class to work and discuss with our groups. also I have utilized a lot of that time to revise and expand on my final paper. This week will be a lot of hard work to compile a finished product but it will feel good to finally be finished and show what we have been working on.

Today in Class:
  Happy Monday everyone!!!! It is a winter wonderland outside. Today we are discussing the threads that our class mates have participated in. We are instructed to discuss and add comments to the thread on the founder of the geek squad. 
  I have been working on my final draft of my paper and really working on intext citations and making it a better finished product. We are also working on our final project to present as a group and working with all of the aspects that we have learned. I am excited to see what other groups in the class have come up with and the topics in which they are working on.

  I cant wait for break!!!!!

Friday in class,
  I am feeling a little stressed because I have been sick and It is really ahrd for me to concentrate on my studies and projects. I have a lot going on right now with work, Dance team, and school. I cant wait until thanksgiving break but at the same time I just want it to be over. I am having a minor surgery and I am not looking forward to it. As of now and working on the final project I feel like we have covered so much since the semester started. I really feel like I have worked hard in the class to expand my knowledge on everything we have worked on.

Today our first draft of our final paper was due! I don't like when others ask for more time because of their ignorance. I feel that everyone has packed schedules and everyone handles stress differently and different time mgmt skills. I think that people should work harder and expect a lot of work since we are in college. During class we figured out how to add a drop down menue tab for our web site for our final project. I think that our final project will be really cool with all of our collaborative thoughts. I have also been not feeling well lately whicks sucks and I feel like I have not had as much enthuasm in class. Sorry Everyone. I cannot wait til thanksgiving break...

Monday In class:
  Today we are going to continue working with the FLASH program. Working with fal files and sws files. This is a very cheap and easy way to improve websites and make them fun.  If you are thinking you will find the answer. We are also using class time to work on the final project.

Our group follow up:
  We are creating one big mashup with each of us making a web page with a specific concept of Net Neutrality which is our topic for the final project. We are all going to discuss the issues of for, against, legal issues, and related issues with net neutrality. We are working on our individual papers that are due on Wednesday.. 5,000 words which is about 4 to 5 pages of reasearch on this topic.  The final papers are dues on wednesday at 10 am.  And to be submitted in the drop box.

Friday in class:
  Today we are looking at Adobe Flash. It is a similar program meshed together such as movie maker and dream wever. It is basically making a movie of whatever you want drawing shapes and such. Using all these tools are very similar to dream wever but the flash program has many disserent levels of complexity. This project is very fun once the skills are devloped. Continue working on the final project and figuring out what the final steps are. I like learning new things that I would have not worked with if not for this class.

Wednesday in class:
    Today our mashup is due! After troubleshooting most of the night I am working on puting my working url up for the assignment. I really like how we have had a lot of time in class to work on thigs individualy and having the extra time to work toward  our final projects.
    Today we are also discussing "the things we can live without". can we really live without technology? I think not. I think that if we did not have technology than we would be stuck in a world that had no intertainment and less networking and a lot of companies as well as businesses would suffer. There would be mass cayoss at first but im sure we could adapt. Humanity is advanced enough that people would find a way to make things work and continue doing and using these ways to make lives easier.

Monday in class:
   Today we are contuinuing to work on the mash ups we started on Friday. We are working toward a final product to submit on Wednesday.  This mash up assignment is very complicated for me because I have never worked with it. But with guidance Im sure that I can master the skills of the tools.

REQUIREMENTS:
 For this assignment you will create and mount on the WWWeb (i.e. your HuskyNet Web space account) a Web site that consist of at least 5 (five) Web pages created by you, using a Web editing tool such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft Front Page. Your site must includes:

• a personal subject or theme of importance to you and (hopefully) your viewers.
• at least two graphic images on each page, necessary to convey your message (don't just insert randomly any image)
  • in addition to the images above, have at least one animated gif image
  • in addition to the images above, have at least one transparent gif image
• links to at least eight other WWWeb locations that, again, are logical extensions of your message

meeting the basic requirements for design and content will bring you points. Using advanced techniques like animated gif, tables, forms, well-designed pages in terms of colors, space, naming conventions, etc. will bring you another set of points.

• In addition, you need to have on your Web site:

  Today we are working on the basics of creating a mashup. Some of the basics are kinda confusing but with practice it will come. Like embedding a youtube video into your webpage. In order to view the video you must go to VIEW in the browser you want. we will be working toward a finished product that is due on Wednesday! Work outside of class on using the tools and trial and error.

Wednesday in class:
  Discussion on the digital divide. Find someone that is not computer illiterate and help or educate them on how to do basic things. We are teaching people how to use software and not really teaching them how to use computers. Examples of this would be children not having computers growing up and really using the technology and not just the software. If you know computer architecture then you will always know how to relate to computers. In africa they dont even have electricity so they cannot even stay caught up with the basic technology. We can never close the gap because people will always be left out.


Mash ups;
  What kind of mash up do we want to use... the project that is due on the 10th is just an exercise that we are proving to know the ways of using mash ups.


Google Earth:
      Create a trip to your dream destination using google earth. provide URL so everyone can enjoy it.

  Create an account and within a group discuss a topic as well as play a game. create and share as well as provide a link to view our group conversation. I really enjoy this program and I think that this is really fun! I wish you didn't have to pay to form a group. I think this is awsome that you can chat in a similar way of skype but this program offers soo many more tools than just using voice.

This program would be sooo cool to hold online classes as well as lectures on. This gives complete interaction over the internet.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Well the semester is almost over and I feel as if we have covered so much yet there is still an overabundance of subject matter to go over. I cannot believe that there is only about 5 weeks left until winter break! Good Luck everyone!!!

Friday in class:
   I really enjoy how we have gotten time to work on INDESIGN during class time. It is helpful to those who do not know how to use the program or are not fermillier.

Today in class

Working with indesign is a challenge. It will take a lot of time for me to understand and really learn the components to master. I feel like indesign is the hardest program we have worked with compared to photoshop and dreamwever. I really like how we go step by step in class. It is very helpful.

Monday in Class:
  Great start to the day without being able to log in with my husky net ID. Lame!

Why do we need Indesign?
  It is basically a box of tools that you can use to produce something and you can do things that you cannot do in photo shop.

What is the difference between microsoft word and indesign?
  word can keep track of how many wods a document may have which is crutial. In design is hands on and one must play around and mess around with it to figure it out. Word also gives us highlight and copy and spell check.

Expierament with INDESIGN and work with making finished products such as brochures and such.

I do not have a twitter account nor am I interested in getting an account. It think that this program is a constant news feed that is avalibal. also known as micro blogging. 140 characters just like texting. If you are following someone you can see constant feeds. Twitter compaired to facebook are very similar. One can post pictures and enter posts. There is not much matniance to the twitter compaired to facebook. So in a sence it is easier. Facebook must have confirmation in order to see others profile. With twitter the information that is posted is avalibal to everyone who has a twitter account. The twitter is more mobile. There are many advantages to having twitter VS facebook. it is easier to follow and respond.

Programs such as Adobe/ Dreamwever can and will most likely be used in my profession because I want to get into health and wellness. I am a fitness instructor and I use these programs to devlope websites for campus rec and marketing for group fitness. I am majoring in biomedical sciences and community health and thinking about kinesology as well. I am going to minor in advertising because I believe that it is a great way to open my options for the future. Using these web 1.0 programs make things easier for advertising and marketing aspects.

MOR- Copy write, Proffessor from harvard discussed how in the past a lot were against copy write. Describing how MGM can block things in our country but cannot in other countries. copy write is protecting your property. People can borrow but cannot buy or steal. Protecting something you created.

Folksonomy:
     Clouding by interest, Book marks, and x marks. Swarming, clashing with public enrests and the use of cell phones. within ten to 15 years swarming will be used within the educational systems. Swarming is similar to requirement, swarming to an idea of technology. can make interests such as facebook and such. How does this relate and what isactly folksonomy? It means to classify or in todays world it is called tagging or blogging.

Three thing items I have learned while being in the class; I have learned a lot about programs such as how to set up a meeting through email and how to use the chat programs through microsoft outlook. I have also learned and been able to review proper guidlines for netiquette.



 Three thing I can improve on; I think that I can really improve on my internet searching skills. I also think that I can also improve on expanding the resources that are all around me and taking the time to use them. I also think that I can improve on my procrastination skills, I have always been very organized but sometimes I think that I am so busy that I cannot devote time to certain things that I need to.

I thought that the workshop on Friday was interesting. I think it was very beneficial for those who attended and very bitter sweet for those who decided to sleep in. I think that it is important to learn the things that we will be applying to projects in classes further on in the Mass Comm major. It was very nice to be mixed in with other classes that use the same technology for other reasons. I am looking forward to this week because I feel more organized during the week and I like feeling accomplished.

It is very surprising that students in the class are so defensive. I believe that the confusion comes from the other students individually that do not want to work and be active in the class. The boundries of respect were broken to day and it was uncalled for. The ignorance level was way to high in the class today. But i liked how more people talked in the discussion today, that is the only plus.

A little frustrated with how this day is going so far. There is just not enough hours in the day to get everything done it feels like. I do have a lot on my plate right now but I enjoy being busy. It just bothers me when people waste my time especially when I feel like I try to fit so much in to my daily schedule... Im excited for the weekend to come because it will be nice to realx and have some time to myself... :)
   I am choosing to follow a few blog's. Maria and Chris whom are both in my group for the IM 260 Class.

SO I printed the syllibus out and I feel more confident with this class. At first I wasnt understanding what we all had to do for the final project and what was required of us in class but now im feeling a lot better. Making an outline for the final project has really helped me in the process of worrying less and no being so stressed out for this class. I realy liked the discussion today in class on interet. As the discussions continue I feel more confident in knowing the material on things such as networks and internet and netiquette. From here on out im am really gonna continue to be active in class as well as discussions. I do not want a lack of points to reflect my grade. Although I am looking forward to midterm and knowing where I really stand in the class.

Sooo im not so sure how im feeling about this class. I mean I like learning more about technology and expanding my knowledge on certain things but im not so sure what this class is even about. I have taken computers in society and learned about general technology but im not so sure what this class is even about so far. Hopefully it gets better as the semester goes on.

    I like learning about how everyday technologies effect us like texting. I also like having discussions in class but sometimes i feel like its a little unorganized. Maybe its the class or maybe it is me, I havn't figured it out yet. And finally I like how we are prepairing now for the final project but I feel like I havnt had time or my group hasnt had time to meet. I dont wanna get pts. off for the final project.

    Friday in class I thought we had a good discussion on texting. It was somthing that everyone in class could relate to and I believe the discussion was able to get more in depth as in past descussions on technology.I have always been good at texting and very fast at sending and replying but as I have gotten older I have found that I like to talk more on the phone and being more involved in the conversation. I am more of a interpersonel type of person. With a comment that was brought up in class about answering a text while having a face to face conversation was sort of an eye opener for me. I know that I have dont that in the past but hearing it from someone else made me feel as if I have been rude in the past. I will be more cautious about doing so from now on.



       Some things that I really need to improve on is my discussion skills. Most of the time I think things but am not too quick to say them out loud. I do like discussion but not arguments. I also am trying to work on my technological skills. this is one of my many downfalls when it comes to knowing a lot about technology in the discussions. I know a good amount about technology but only the technology I use on an everyday bases. I want to get better at knowing more about sofeware exc.

Homework task for today 9/3
   - File Management:
               Good Practices of file management would be basically saving files in there proper storeage space. Either saving something to the desktop and then moving it to a proper folder for a certain subject or certain space. I like to make specific folders for things such as Dance team , Work, and School classes. There also can be folders for other things such as pictures and videos. Once these specifc folders are created I like to save all of the documents for each in their own folder so I know where to find it.

               Somthing that I could be better about reguarding file managment is to keep all of my documents orgaized on the school computers. I feel as if they are very un organized and I usually save everything to the desktop since its just right there. It does get stressful because I wish I had the time to make this organizxation happen.


3 things I like about class:
   I like that I am understanding more about this class and how things work. I feel like I am learning more and gaining more knowledge on technology. However I dont like how it has gotten hotter in our classroom. :(



Homework for Wednesday:
     Kininski article, read and discuss. Enter in blog 3 things we learned today and blog on SMS and how we would resolve the problem or issue on texting.

 Thursday September 2nd 2010,
   Feeling a little hard on myself because I missed two classes yesterday becasue of mainstreet. I like to be actively involoved in my classes and have the enjoyment of doing very well in my classes. I am getting used to the wiki and learning how to make pages within the folders and work on netiquitte. I like the discussions in class and how we have been getting time to work on things and learn more.

 Just a little side note that I thought I would mention. SCSU Dance Team tryouts are being held next week. Sept. 7th and 8th. from 8-11pm. We recently sent out a mass emial to everyone who signed up at mainstreet and wanted more information about Dance Team. Sooo Excited!!! :)

Today in IM 260:

- Homework for Wednesday:
        Describe in as much detail as possible what kind of equipment we have at home. For example,               Software, hard drive, and processor. Also logging into the WIKI and create a folder for final project.

* As this class continues I feel like I don't know as much as I should about technology. It makes me a little nervous honestly. I do  like that we try and talk about everything in class as far as upcoming assignments and the final project. I like that our classroom is cold because I feel like I can concentrate better. I like expanding my knowledge of technology although it is hard for me to answer questions in class and participate when I have not heard of the latest software. Finally I do like that our instructor is open and honest about what he expects of us and what we need to do as students to gain not only a good grade but the knowledge of new technology.

* I wish that I could say there were no dislikes so far in the class but hopefully it things will get better. I don't like feeling lost and uneducated in the class. I'm not sure if I'm one hundred percent clear that I understand the wiki is yet but I'm learning. Finally I dislike that we don't have a text for this class. I understand that it would be an extra cost but I do believe it would be very helpful in the learning process for this class.
